The Everest Base Camp with Island Peak summit is an alpine adventure that combines the Khumbu Valley trek with a thrilling mountaineering challenge.

This journey will begin with a scenic flight to Lukla. We will be rewarded with the first mountain scenery while being in the plane itself. Lukla will further reward us with its wonderful offerings.

The major attractions include standing at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall at Everest Base Camp, and we will also witness the Khumbu Icefall at Everest Base Camp.

The best view is yet to be had as we will witness a breathtaking sunrise over Mt. Everest from the dramatic Kala Patthar at 5545m.

We must get ready physically and mentally for the ascent of Island Peak (6189m). From the summit, we will be treated to a 360-degree, unparalleled panorama of the Himalayan giants.

The peaks like Lhotse, Makalu, and Ama Dablam will be seen from the peak of Island Peak.

The major challenges of this trek are extreme altitude, freezing temperatures, and the physical demands of long and steep days.

Our guides will lead essential technical training sessions at the Base Camp. You will be assured of the masterful skills of crampons, ice axes, and Jumars.

Major Highlights

  • We will start the trek with a magnificent flight into Tenzing-Hillary Airport, famously perched in the mountains with the dramatic and brilliant views of the Himalayas.
  • We will explore the vibrant shape of Namche Bazaar, which is also the capital of the Sherpa and Khumbu region.
  • Visiting the largest and most famous monastery in the Khumbu region will reward us with a profound cultural experience.
  • We will pay our respects at the poignant memorial site near Dughla. The stone monuments honour the climbers who lost their lives in the Everest mission.
  • We will stand at the base of the world’s highest peak, spending the most miraculous and heart-pumping time for the trekkers.
  • We will trek to the highest trekking point of the journey for the most iconic and face-to-face view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse as the morning sun hits the summits.
  • The ultimate achievement will be conquering an 6189m Island Peak. We will start at midnight and reach the summit right before sunrise.

Why Choose this Trek?

We will accomplish two world-class goals in one trip. We will reach the Everest Base Camp at 5364m and reach the summit of Island Peak at 6180m.

This itinerary will feature three strategic acclimatization phases and a “walk high-sleep low” technique to ensure our adaptability and physical readiness for the climb.

Even with the limited experience, we will have a dedicated training day at the Island Peak Base Camp. This will help us with essential skills for a technical climb.

We will experience the “Big Three” up close. Everest, Lhotse, and Manaslu will provide us with a gigantic perspective and the raw side of the Himalayas that standard trekking routes simply cannot match.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is a non-negotiable safety net for expeditions like Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Summit.

In the remote region of Khumbu, there are no roads and medical facilities like hospitals or ambulances.

In case of severe medical cases, the most efficient and quickest medical response is hiring a medical air ambulance from Kathmandu.

A single rescue flight can cost between 3000 and 5000 USD. Without comprehensive insurance, these costs must be paid up front out of the pocket.

Most standard policies cover the treks up to 3000m only. Hence, you need a special policy that covers trekking up to 6500m and covers the helicopter rescue and medical bills.

Ensure the policy also includes search and rescue operations with a high coverage limit.

The Lukla flights are prone to flight cancellations, so it is also important to have that in mind, if your travel insurance covers that.

Travel Insurance is a highly trustworthy investment to save your hard-earned savings.

Difficulties and Pro Remedies for this trek

The major difficulties of the Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Summit are extremely high-altitude. In such altitudes, the oxygen levels are nearly 50%.

The long trekking days and less modern amenities of the teahouses will cause a 10-14-hour ordeal involving a glacial crossing with the hidden crevasses.

We need to cross the ice headwall of 45-60 degrees. We will navigate this vertical section on fixed ropes while wearing mountaineering boots.

Pro Remedies

Adhere strictly to the itinerary’s acclimatization days in Namche and Dingboche. The acclimatization days will help us combat the best defense against high-altitude sickness.

Utilizing a dedicated day at the Base Camp to master your ascending and descending skills. It will help us secure the muscle memory in the severe cold and exhaustion set on the headwall.

One must drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily and must prioritize high-carb meals to keep up the energy.

Renting or buying high-quality double-insulated mountaineering boots for the summit is key. They will provide the rigid support required for the crampon and essential protection.

Trekker must maintain a slow and steady pace and maintain total honesty with the guide and sherpa regarding health updates. Early intervention will prevent emergency evacuations.

Altitude Sickness Solutions
We will minimize the risk of altitude sickness by ascending gradually and allowing our bodies to acclimatize to the thinning air and increasing elevations. We have to stay well-hydrated and avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine throughout the trek. We will maintain steady pacing for the trek as we have to acclimate to the thinning air. We have experienced and well-known guides who will constantly check on your health conditions. If you show any symptoms, immediate and wise action will be taken. In the severe cases, helicopter evacuation is also an option, as is an immediate response.

FAQs

Do I really need to leave Kathmandu at 2:00 AM for the flight?

Partly yes. Some of the flights to Lukla depart from Ramechhap (Manthali) rather than Kathmandu to avoid air traffic. This requires a 4 to 5-hour drive starting around midnight or 2:00 AM. Your operator will handle the vehicle, but be prepared for a long, bumpy ride before your flight.

Can I trek to Island Peak "Solo" under the 2026 rules?

The Solo rule allows you to apply for a permit as a single traveller, but independent trekking is prohibited. The trekker must be accompanied by a government-licensed guide who is associated with a registered agency. The local authorities won't let you enter from the checkpoints.

What is the "1:7 Rule" for group treks?

The Nepal Government has implemented the strict 1 guide per 7 trekkers ratio for 2026. If your group has 8 people, your operator must provide two licensed guides. This is to ensure better safety and more personalized attention during the technical climb.

Is the "Island Peak Headwall" still a snow climb?

Conditions are changing. Depending on the month in 2026, the 100m headwall can vary from deep snow to exposed blue ice. Blue ice is much more technical and exhausting to climb with crampons. Your training day at Base Camp is designed specifically to assess these current conditions.

Can I rent "Double Boots" in the mountains?

Yes, you can rent Double Boots from Kathmandu. Chhukung also has several gear houses where you can rent high-quality boots, crampons, and ice axes. However, to ensure you have the highest quality, it's better to arrange this in Kathmandu.

Why is there a "Contingency Day" (Day 16) in the itinerary?

This is your most important "insurance" day. High-altitude weather is unpredictable; if high winds prevent a summit bid on Day 15, this day allows you a second chance. It also serves as a recovery day if someone in the group needs extra time to acclimatize.

Will my "Standard" travel insurance work for this trek?

Most likely not. The standard and generic travel insurance excludes mountaineering and activities above 4000m. For 2026, one must ensure the policy explicitly covers Helicopter Evacuation and trekking up ot 6500m. The local authorities now verify the insurance documents during the permit process.

Do I need to bring my own climbing rope?

No. Your tour operator and climbing Sherpas are responsible for "fixing" the ropes on the mountain. They carry, set, and secure the lines that you will use with your Jumar to reach the summit.

What is the success rate for Island Peak?

While the trek to EBC has a high success rate, the Island Peak summit success is roughly 60-70%. The main reasons for not summiting are altitude sickness and the physical exhaustion required for the final vertical headwall. Proper acclimatization in Dingboche is the key to being in the successful 70%.

Is there electricity and Wi-Fi available throughout the trek?

Most teahouses use solar power. You can charge your electrical devices and use Wi-Fi via the Everest link cards. However, you need to pay a small charge for such services. Charging will become difficult as we reach the high-altitude ranges. We recommend that you have a portable power bank.

What is the difference between a "Trekking Guide" and a "Climbing Sherpa"?

A Trekking guide manages the journey, logistics, and culture from the start to the end of the trek. A Climbing Sherpa is a specialized high-altitude professional who will join in Chhukung to lead the technical summit push.

How do I manage the "Lukla Flight" weather delays?

The weather cannot be predicted while being in the Himalayas. Flight cancellations are common in Lukla. The best strategy is to have at least one or two buffer days to end the trip or in Kathmandu before your departure flight. If the weather is very bad, we will help you arrange a helicopter or a road transfer.
